I made this thread instead of adding it to the other OFP2 thread as this is nothing like ArmA or anything I expected...
Today I felt little better and decided to try OFP2 a little and here is my small review.
OFP2 is not worth the OFP title, as it's no where anything like Operation Flashpoint.
I think this is a mix between GRAW2 and Desert Combat (the old bf1942 mod).
The game feels and looks like GRAW2, maybe looks a little better. The weapons behave pretty much the same, the only difference would be the surrounding. The island is pretty large but it is allot of open area. Maybe this is the only resemblance it has with OFP.
The open area's look nice and have allot of vegetation, which is not a problem at all and you really need it. You need it as it will give you protection against the AI.
With such large area to move between, you need vehicles. The vehicles are how i feel it, copied from Desert Combat. They are easy to drive/fly and very responsive (which is good, but a little arcadish).
I don't really hate the game, but i think it has nothing to do with the original Operation Flashpoint. This will probably be a good thing for many of you, as not many were into OFP when it was released.
I haven't tried multiplayer and only did the first mission before i went to the mission editor to explore the island, so i don't know how that is.
I think this will interest the ppl who liked Ghost Recon (which was also lager open area's) and the ppl who liked GRAW2, but it's definitly not something that can be compared to Operation Flashpoint/Armed Assault. So don't let that scare you and try it when you liked GRAW instead.
It's not that realistic as I thought and I'm a little disappointed about it.
But hey, I didn't spend any money on it, so who cares.
The game needs a couple of patches as there is one annoying bug that happened to me multiple times, and made the game pretty unplayable. But those patches will come, as there are allot of complaints in the forum.
The game runs very smooth on my system with all settings on high and highest AA and such. Currently my monitor is limited to 1024x768 so I couldn't test it on higher resolutions, so this might also explain why it was so smooth
.
Personally I wouldn't spend the 30-35 euro for it what it costs right now. I would only buy it if many ppl would play it in our community and they fixed a couple of things (a patch and adding a dedicated server and join in progress), and it wouldn't work online with a cracked version (haven't tested yet).
So there is my small review, i hope it was a little useful for some of you.
So when you want to try it, don't see it as OFP2 but see it as GRAW3 or something, as that's what it is according to me.
I'll give it a 6 out of 10.
