you are correct in your statement that guns are made of metal, but metal does corrode(rust) so really having it get wet does kinda mess things up. Ahh yes, girls take pictures, men bring back trophies...

You know guns are usually made from metal and that they don't melt from water? And it wasn't raining. It had rained in the night and hunting moose in a wet forest kinda doesn't keep the guns dry. And who cares, it doesn't hurt...

Well to you cityfolk, not all hunting trips/lands have cabins with running water and electricity... ;) It's a loooong way home. And we had to be wewy wewy quiet... Sweden was very near... Took few pictures of the rifles for a gun magazine article while we ate few sausages... And after that the hunt continued. The upper rifle has 4 moose kills in its list and the lower one has 30+. I didn't get to shoot a moose on this trip, well maybe next year :)

well im fairly confident that i can hit a persons head at 500 yards. I just kinda like the iron sights, only thing the scope is good for is to see more detail. And i hafta agree, why are those guns out in the rain when they arent being used?

 Still waiting for the picture of even decent scope

You know you can do lot of other things too with a good scope than pose them in front of a rock in rain. I like to shoot with mine rather than taking photos of them or leaving them outside it to rain. I'm quite sure they could manage that too, but would I?

Nope, good optics rule & next time post a picture of one...

Reason why optics are better is simple. For a normal person it's impossible to focus ones eye for three different distances(rear sight, front sight & target) at the same time. With Scopes & red dot sights one must only focus on the target. The sight - if a proper one - will draw a nice reticle upon the target & one's eye has to focus only on one distance. A good scope also make's the picture clearer than what it really is. Not just the magnification, but brighter picture/better contrast also.

Anyone who has ever tried some good sights, like Zeiss, Schmidt & Bender, Leupold(older Mark4-series), Swarovski, Hensoldt etc. can confirm this. Since even .223 rem is accurate up to 600 meters in good conditions, why not take everything out of that accuracy.

Only reasons I see for iron sights upon rifle are motivation shooting puposes & lack of money.

Other than they are better than iron sights in almost every possible way? :)

On the upper rifle, kinda hard to hit a 4" target at 500 yards without optics. And on the lower moose hunting rifle... It's a 1-4 magnification scope with illuminated reticle. Faster target acquisition and much better in lower lighting conditions.

Optics rule!
